The Gold Coast has officially secured the hosting rights for the prestigious School Sport Australia (SSA) Triathlon & Aquathlon Championships for the three-year cycle spanning 2026, 2027, and 2028. This landmark commitment confirms the Queensland city’s status as the epicenter of Australian triathlon development, strategically aligning youth competition with the world stage.
Annually, the championships will welcome over 500 of Australia’s most promising student-athletes to compete in one of the country’s most dynamic coastal cities.
A Critical Pathway to Elite Status
The inaugural event is scheduled for March 16–20, 2026, at the internationally recognized Broadwater Parklands. The timing is highly deliberate: the SSA Championships will serve as the official curtain-raiser for the elite T100 Gold Coast Triathlon World Tour event (March 21–22, 2026).
This unique proximity provides a powerful and tangible athlete pathway—a key entity in sports development. By competing on the same stage immediately before professionals, young triathletes gain invaluable experience and motivation, making the Gold Coast event a mandatory checkpoint on the journey toward Olympic success.
Mayor Tom Tate emphasized the city’s proven capability: “Our record as a destination of choice for top-flight school sports carnivals has been a driving factor in securing this fantastic event.” The success follows the city’s hosting of the inaugural SSA Games in 2024.
